Polymer Analysis and Characterization Using ReactRaman Spectroscopy

Raman Spectroscopy to Study Polymerization Reactions

Program Overview

  • Hardware and instrumentation used to acquire high quality experimental data
  • Introduction to software for Raman data analysis
  • Raman spectral analysis

While FTIR is commonly used for polymer analysis, especially functional group measurements, it has limitations with certain bond types, and when measuring in aqueous solutions. Raman spectroscopy offers an advantage when measuring molecular backbones, double and triple bonds, sulfur species, and is ideal for monitoring reactions in aqueous solutions. With the continuous developments to ReactRaman, it is now easier than ever to acquire in-situ spectra to provide real-time monitoring of polymerization processes.

This presentation will demonstrate how ReactRaman spectroscopy can be used for the study of polymers and how to analyze the spectra data from an example polymerization reaction.
